ATTENTION PEOPLE OF EUREKA!!!! FIGHT THE BITE!

Flavivirus or, West Nile Virus, is on the loose and we need your help to catch it!  A virus is small non-living particles that can infect your body cells and change how the cells function.  A virus can cause a disease.  The culprit of this virus is mosquitoes.  Mosquitoes that feed on infected birds are causing humans to get the virus.  When mosquitoes bite us, the virus gets released into our blood and attacks our cells.  The West Nile Virus is a like a sneaky ninja and sneaks into the body.  It attacks the cells of the body and forces it to make its bad boy like DNA.  In just a few short days you will begin to feel sick and not like yourself.  There are two stages of West Nile Virus.  The fever stage will include a slight fever, headache, rashes, and swollen throat.  The disease stage will start with a high fever leading to disorientation, neck ache, muscle weakness, and possibly convulsions, or falling into a coma.  Symptoms can last anywhere from 2 to 15 days depending on how severe the case of the virus is.  There is no current vaccine available for West Nile Virus but scientists are close to developing one.  There are a few medicines available (Ribavirin) that can help you feel better.  To prevent this disease, you can wear bug spray, wear covering clothing, and empty any standing water. Now, if you see any signs of this virus make sure to tell your parents or doctor so they can put it in jail!
